Alison has voiced her concerns in Parliament over the Government's proposed Employment Bill, highlighting the potential negative impacts on businesses and workers in her constituency.

In her speech, Alison said, “I rise today to express my concerns about the impact of the Employment Rights Bill on one of the most vulnerable groups in our workforce: seasonal workers. Those individuals form the backbone of key sectors such as tourism, agriculture and retail, particularly in my constituency of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, where many depend on seasonal jobs for their livelihoods. I fear that the Bill will put their livelihoods at risk, as well as the viability of the businesses that employ them.”

The Employment Bill includes several new provisions which claim to improve workers' rights. Concerns have been raised by Conservative MPs about the potential impact on businesses. One concern is for the viability of businesses and livelihoods for those seasonal workers and staff who are happy with the flexibility of a zero-hours contract.

Alison added, “Our local economy is driven by small and medium-sized businesses, many of which are still recovering from the impact of the pandemic. The increased regulatory burden could push them to the brink. We need to strike a better balance between worker protections and the need for flexibility and survival for businesses.”

The MP has called for a more detail in the Bill and urged the government to consult with local businesses to ensure their voices are heard. Alison Griffiths remains committed to advocating for policies that balance economic growth with fair working conditions, ensuring that both businesses and employees in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton thrive.
