Tackling sewage discharges and preventing flooding are Alison Griffiths’ top priorities.
As an active sea swimmer, Alison knows all too well the devastating impact of sewage discharges - not just on our local environment, but on our tourism economy too. She is committed to holding Southern Water, the Environment Agency, and the Government to account for the unacceptable pollution that is damaging our rivers and beaches, and for the blight of flooding in our local area.
To strengthen her efforts, Alison has joined the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee. This role provides her with a powerful platform to challenge officials, demand real action, and ensure that the voices of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton are heard in the fight for cleaner water.
Since the General Election, Alison has been in frequent contact with Southern Water and the Environment Agency, meeting with them multiple times to make her stance clear: We must clean up our water. She shares the frustration of residents who are disappointed with the latest bathing water quality data, and is determined to ensure that we never have to face this crisis again.
Alison has been vocal in Parliament, demanding that the Government take meaningful action. During the Water Special Measures Bill, she raised serious concerns about the Government's approach, questioning whether their tough rhetoric on water companies would translate into real change. Alison warned that a narrow focus on sewage discharges and water companies alone fails to address the complexity of the issue. We need an integrated approach that works for our communities, our environment, and future generations.
On flooding, Alison is engaging with local action groups, including the Flood Avoidance Community Taskforce and pressing for solutions to prevent flooding in our community.
